How do YOU find available domain names?

I know many domainers use Google’s Keyword Tool and I know many domainers simply sit down and type their own list of domains to check.

My inspiration comes when I read articles or see posters on the train or subway. Jacob is your website going dark at 9:30 am this Friday as hundreds of other sites are planning to for sandy hook shooting victims?

We use a number of automated tools however, a simple method is to use a spreadsheet. Using a few columns to create a list of compound words which we then feed into a bulk domain search at one of the registrars to check availability. We have a subset of available domains we allow free access to for whomever wants to join up.

I find domains following offline world such interacting with people who don’t have to do anything with online world and who don’t care about online world.
